Nominator's project description

Professor Modest has made outstanding contributions to the important fields of radiation heat transfer and laser machining of materials. He is particularly known for his pioneering work in nongray gas radiation, turbulence-radiation interactions and laser machining. During his stay in Germany, Professor Modest will continue his research on numerical methods for the prediction of radiative transfer. The resulting models will be used to extend fluid dynamics codes, such as the ones used by the host institute in Karlsruhe.
